FIGHT BACK — NOT CUTBACKS |!
Camden Labour Briefing is holding an open meeting at 7.30pm
on Wednesday 29 July to discuss the current financial crisis and the implication for trade unionists, Labour Party members, community organisations and tenants associations in the borough
CUTS ARE BEING IMPLEMENTED NOW BY THE COUNCIL WHICH INCLUDE : * A freeze on all vacancies : approximately 900 jobs 3
* No renewal of temporary contracts : approximately 300 jobs ; * The cutting of overtime ;
* A freeze on estate modernisation and repairs .
CUTS ARE BEING PLANNED FOR THE AUTUMN WHICH INCLUDE : * A 5% across the board cut in the voluntary sector , * Redundancies amongst town hall staff
NEXT YEAR'S DEFICIT WILL NOT BE £10 MILLION BUT £60 MILLION ??
AND THE TORIES ARE PREPARING ATTACKS ON COUNCILS SUCH AS * The self-financing of council housing ,
* The compulsory tendering of council sevices,
* The selling off of council estates,
* The introduction of the poll tax . ; All these and other measures mean cuts in jobs and services, and.
rent and rate rises on a massive scale . ‘
We need to organise resistance now to the present package
of cuts if there is to be any possibility of defending jobs, ‘services and the community against the Tory attacks .
This meeting is sponsored by the following councillors who voted against the cuts in the Couneil : Kate Allen, Steve
Bevington, Angela Birtill, Caroline Holding, Sandra Plummer, Graham Shurety, Adrian States, Gloria Lazenby, Karen Newbury .
